Who’s telling the truth? July 10, 2006

I was inspired to write an article today about the sneaky tactics used by other Internet marketers to sell you on more of their supposed money making programs and ebooks. I myself am an Internet marketer but I do not pride myself on trying to sell every product under the sun to my opt-in list members.
I like to subscribe to several other marketers newsletters to keep up on what they are doing and it’s funny to see how some of them will send out emails for the exact same programs all at the same time. Today I received two such emails from different marketers who claimed to have the secret to a new and exciting program that is available.
The funny thing is that I know the program in question and it’s neither new nor good! You see, I understand how you can become inundated with a ton of Internet business opportunities but it’s important to remain selective. You have to remember that marketers put a lot of hype into their sales pages. After all it is designed to make the sale. Some programs are really good but most aren’t. I wish I had some of the thousands of dollars back that I have spent over the years on some of this crap.
If you want to start a home based Internet business without spending tons of money or wasting lots of time then I suggest that you stick to a particular theme. By that I mean select the area of interest and go after it. If you want to sell ebooks or start an auction business it’s all pretty much the same. There is a lot of information available to assist you in getting started. I’m not saying that you shouldn’t buy other marketing products because that would be foolish. What I am really getting at is that if you are selective and you can see past the hype there are some really good programs and ebooks available that will help you get started.
I have been an affiliate marketer for five years and in the past two years I have been able to quit my job and do this fulltime. As you can see it didn’t happen overnight for me and I made a lot of mistakes along the way. My first three years in the business I only spent money and didn’t make hardly anything. I wish someone would have told me what I am telling you now. Be selective in your choices and be smart in your business decisions and I’m sure you can be successful no matter what you decide to try.

I have written on this subject many times and it never ceases to amaze me to see so many people attempting to start an online business and failing. I cannot overstate enough how difficult it can be to actually make a profit from the Internet. People live by this myth that building an Internet based business is easy to do.
Building a business on the Internet can be even more challenging than a regular business. At least if you own a brick and mortar store you know that eventually someone will walk through the door. The Internet is a beast that only a select few have been able to tame. I’m sure that 99% of the people who attempt an Internet business fail primarily because they underestimate the complexities of the process.
You might as well open a fruit stand at the top of Mt. Everest because that’s about how difficult it can be to bring people to your website. I have spoken to hundreds if not thousands of people who think they have that one idea that is sure to bring them a fortune online only to be disappointed later on.
The Internet can be profitable only with proper planning just as with any business. You need to have a strong business plan for your business before you attempt anything. Some people may think that a business plan is not necessary but I could not disagree more.
Then you have the people who try every hair-brained scheme on the Internet to make a quick buck. We hear stories of overnight success and we think we can do it too. In reality that’s like winning the lottery because it really doesn’t happen as often as you might think. Everyone is looking for the homerun hit that will bring them instant success and it simply doesn’t happen that way.
If you want to start an Internet business then start with a solid plan first. It doesn’t take much time to sit down and write out your goals and your plan to achieve them. If you plan from the start you will be more likely to have long-term success. Plan for your future not an overnight gamble. If you have what it takes to persevere then you will be creating something that can bring you a lifetimes worth of income. We all have great ideas, so do yourself and your ideas a favor and plan them out first. Start your Internet business off right. Learn more at The Believe Factor
