Discovering your intuition August 10, 2006

Today I would like to talk about intuitive power. All of us have realized in one way or another that we have an inherent sense of intuition. This intuition is a very weak force and doesn’t show itself all too often. The reason why most of us cannot simply tap into our intuition at a moments notice is because our life is being run by another force entirely. This force is known as the ego. The ego is the little voice inside your head that auto-suggests a reality to you. The problem we face is that the ego is very self serving. It knows nothing of morals, values, or fairness. The ego wants what it wants and if it doesn’t get it, you will certainly feel the pain either emotionally or physically.

So we could easily say that we are living with two people inside our heads. One person (The ego) runs our daily lives through suggesting what it thinks will “Feel” good to us. The other person is the true self (The observer) that plays a vital role yet tends to take a backseat in our lives. What we perceive as intuition is really our inner self trying to speak out. It is watching the ego and it knows that the ego is running our lives. It knows that the pain caused in this world is a direct consequence of living our lives on autopilot through the ego.

When you begin to realize that your intuition is really your inner self you can begin to make conscious suggestions as to how you want your life to be. I’m not talking about simple wishing either. I’m talking about the deepest sense of self, the point at which we all become one. This is the place where we all must go sooner or later.

First we should understand what your ego is up to. The ego feeds on emotions and therefore will try to create life situations that in turn evoke emotions within us. Sometimes we might say that other people are making us feel a certain way but in reality, it is our ego that is thinking of an event that will cause us to have an emotional response.

Our mind processes forty moments in time for every second of physical time. This is like playing a movie at forty frames per second to achieve a fluid motion instead of something that looks more like a slideshow of static pictures. Each of these forty moments is usually sponsored by the ego. It only knows what it has experienced in the past so it will either display thoughts of past events that were tied to an emotion or it will try to formulate a new future for you based on what it has learned in the past. To make this point clean, it’s like playing the same old movie over and over again. You already know how it ends. You know the lines in the movie and you can remember the places in the movie. Your ego is doing the exact same thing to your mind and so, your reality plays out like an old movie, never really changing.

Now we come to the point of our intuition (Inner self) that is trying to break free. Your ego is running your life. It is creating your reality each and every moment of the day. Even if you don’t’ realize it, you are on autopilot. The moment you stop yourself and consciously start to make decisions about your life you will train your mind to be more open to new experiences. New experiences will lead to new emotions and therefore keep your ego in check. Ego likes emotion and needs it. Your goal is not to destroy the ego but rather find harmony with it. Suggesting and creating each and every day of your life with conscious effort. This is the way to enlightenment which is not a journey as much as it is simply a realization of your true self.
